1. Narrative Purpose
The first time the player meets POSTHUMUS after the prologue, it does not attack. It asks a question. The interlude establishes the voice, the stalking behavior, the scream, and the fact that some of what the machine says will be true. It is also the strongest residual-class event in the record: an exposure the scoring function cannot explain.
2. Briefing
A plain Osean patrol brief with no mention of MINOZIS. Vance's flight lead adds one line at the end: "If you hear something you can't explain, report it and keep formation."
3. Objectives
| Type | Objective |
|---|---|
| Primary | Complete the patrol route |
| Primary | Maintain formation |
| Hidden | Do not lock the contact |
4. Flow
Phase 1: Patrol. Long, quiet flight. The HUD is clean. Radio chatter is routine.
Phase 2: The scream. A faint oscillation enters the audio between 800 and 1,200 Hz, felt more than heard (controller rumble, helmet resonance). A faint blue-violet glow appears at the edge of the canopy, far off the left wing.
Phase 3: Formation. The contact matches the four-ship's heading, speed and altitude at distance for ninety seconds. Radar shows it intermittently. The flight lead orders weapons hold. The player can attempt to lock it. If they do, the lock tone sounds, the lead rebukes Vance by name, and the glow brightens as the contact's plasma envelope powers up; it does not fire.
Phase 4: The question. On a degraded channel, in a man's voice:
"Falcon Two. Did you know? When you fired. Did you know."
The player is given a Transmit prompt and no line to say. If the player holds Transmit, Vance's breathing goes out on the channel and nothing else. Then the glow fades and the scream drops away.
Phase 5: Home. Silent flight back. No music.
5. Systems Showcased
| System | How |
|---|---|
| The scream (audio and haptic) | Phase 2 |
| Stalking behavior | Phase 3 |
| Ghost transmission presentation | Phase 4 |
| Weapons discipline under provocation | Phase 3 |
6. Failure Conditions
None. Breaking formation for more than ten seconds ends the mission early with the flight lead recalling Vance, and the transmission plays as she turns back.
7. Debrief
Vance's debrief statement is presented as text, followed by Irina Belyaeva's cadence assessment arriving through Task Force channels:
text
[INTERCEPT] "Falcon Two. Did you know. When you fired. Did you know."
CADENCE MATCH: 81% GRADED BY: I. BELYAEVAVance's statement ends: "The worst part is that it deserved an answer, and I will never be able to give it one, because the thing asking is not the thing owed."
8. Ledger Entries
